Well there was so much to see and do in Ft. Lauderdale that I could probably write posts about it for the next 2 weeks. But in lieu of the fact that I just got back from yet another great destination, I am going to give you all the highlights instead! First I must say Ft. Lauderdale is perfect for a romantic getaway. Romantic Getaways to the beach is a no-brainer. There is nothing more romantic or relaxing than having nothing to do all day but sit at the beach, watch the water, play in the waves and eat, drink and be merry. We had a great time and would recommend it to any interested parties!
Of course, I already wrote an entire post about Gelato Dream and Ciao Café the fabulous Gelateria s that we went to. If you are in Ft. Lauderdale DO NOT MISS IT.
Now that we are on the topic of frozen dairy delicacies, I must tell you about this amazing dessert we had at Trina Restaurant and Lounge. Now, here’s some background. Trina’s is located in the beautiful Atlantic Hotel which just happens to be right next door to our hotel, the Sea Club Resort. It looked so beautiful and I had read about it online before the trip, that it was a Mediterranean style restaurant. I knew it was going to be expensive because the menu online had no prices. So we decided to go there for dessert, because they sounded really amazing. We decided on Limoncello “Cake Batter”. It was towers of vanilla cake, oozing with Limoncello custard, spun sugar disk on top, with a scoop of basil ice cream. It was amazing and delicious and beautiful. Such a unique experience that is so worth a few extra bucks!
Next was LuLu’s Bait Shop where we shared a fish bowl drink with our friends Nicki and Lisa. It was called Tropical Ecstasy which was fruity and fresh. Although lacking much alcohol it was a blast to chug it down with our friends! We also sampled deep-fried alligator in a spicy Cajun style tartar sauce and noshed on a Cajun Sampler – Crawfish Étouffée, Red Beans & Rice, Shrimp Gumbo and Jambalaya. My favorites were the Shrimp Gumbo, which was creamy and piquant and the Jambalaya which was smoky and spicy. My friend Nicki who was the resident New Orleans food expert agreed that the Jambalaya was good – she describes it as “heavy on the andouille (sausage) and light on the shrimp”. She also felt that the sauce was not really that deep. She would know as she makes an awesome Jambalaya! We all agreed the Red Beans & Rice were quite unremarkable and we were divided over the Crawfish Étouffée. I felt the sauce had many layers to it, which made it delicious, but Nicki wasn’t impressed. Stupidly, we did not bring the camera. I took pics with my cell phone, but they didn’t turn out right…

Then of course there is our friends, Nicki and Lisa. We had so much fun with them and it was nice to see them and get all caught up again! I can’t wait until they come visit us in Ocala. As I am sure they want us to go visit them in Vermont! If you are a coffee lover, be sure to visit Lisabeeen to place your order for home-roasted coffee at its best!
Then there is the beach! The beautiful beach. Nice blue-green water, beautiful sand and the waves to play in! What more could you possibly want?
Last but not least, through the grace of the gods, there was a Whole Foods in Ft. Lauderdale. Living without Whole Foods for so long here in Ocala, has really been the pits, because I cannot find my Greek Yogurt ANYWHERE. But alas, the gods looked kindly upon my suffering soul and I was able to procure Fage Total Greek Yogurt! Making this foodie happy once again…that is until I run out!

I am so close to FTL. If you come back, we should try to hit some restaurants together!
