Now, in case you felt like learning Italian faster than the words and phrases I provide you with here each week, you may want to invest in learning materials. I have tried several different kinds – written, oral, audio, etc. To me I like a combination. The most important thing about learning a language is to learn it organically. When you were a child, you didn’t know how to conjugate verbs, did you? But you could speak and communicate and refine your word choices along the way. So when you are learning a new foreign language I believe that you should learn with these same principles. So this week, I am featuring Conversational Italian: Learn to Speak and Understand Italian with Pimsleur Language Programs (Simon & Schuster's Pimsleur) as the product of the week and encourage all of you who have ever wanted to learn to speak Italian, really speak Italian, to take the plunge!

Buona Fortuna!

I’ll still be checking in on you - cheering you on. I enjoy both your blogs immensely.

Does it work? How’s you Italian? I’m always looking for someone to communicate with in Italian (besides husband) I don’t want to forget it. Yesterday I met a native Italian women who was talking about “i germanese’ an American-Italian blended word instead of ‘i tedeschi’ the proper Italian word. If it can happen to a native speaker it surely can happen to me.

    Hi J. Doe,

These things do work. I think my Italian is pretty good, for just starting to learn about 4 months ago. According to Roberto I have a good basic level of understanding and he says “You can definately get around”. I talk to both of his parents on occassion and we can understand each other well enough. I can understand WAY more than I can speak - but I have always had these problems when learning a new language. It is a hurdle for me to actually speak to the same degree of what I am understanding, if that makes any sense. I guess my goal is being understood. So these programs have gotten me to this point. But I still have ways to go and more tapes and programs to do.
