had dinner there last night and it was delicious! The Black Bean soup was the best I have ever had, a perfect melding of flavors, not one over powering the other. Ditto on the guac but the salsa was to die for (maybe the roasted tomatoes wa the key) and the blue corn and flax seed chips made it even better. Salads were also pallette pleasing and the severs so accomodating. We did not try dessert but did have the ice tea, another unique item.

Hi,Jenn!

I loved reading your review of Casa Maya. My adult kids and I were in St. Augustine in December and stumbled upon the restaurant by accident. We were amazed! I remember the guacamole was some of the best we had ever tasted. I had black bean soup, also delightful! My son had a pork dish that he loved, and my daughter had a vegetarian wrap. What a find!

The reason I found your website is that we are returning to St. Augustine in a couple of weeks, and I love reading about food!

All I can say Christy is that we went there for dinner, and I know they have a different menu for the evenings. Also they have done a lot of changes recently, and I don't know when you were there. But I can promise you that this review is exactly my experience. I am no liar.

I can't help but feel like this review is a big lie. I went to Casa Maya and the had a very limited menu of about two salads and a three entrees. They had things like Cuban sandwich, wraps, omlettes. My food came in a little plastic fry basket with plastic cups (drink was still in the can). My food was something I could make at home. I've studied Mayan culture and I really didn't know that munched on omlettes and love Cuban sandwichs.

okay - i'll definitely try it!

I totally understand trying to convince others that Mexican is really good; aside from taco bell when i need my salt, fat & fake satiated fix.....

I'm a Calfornia native and trying to find fresh California inspired Mexican food out here is 'nil....trying to find GOOD Mexican food is almost 'nil!

I will try Casa Maya as well as continue to cook Calif-Mex @ home when inspired....

Thanks & Yum,
~ I

What a great idea Amber - I will have to drop by and try one - before it gets too hot!
I love Athena's! They have a great breakfast too!
